Lake Chatuge is located nearby and has over 130 miles of shoreline. You can also find many historic buildings in this area. The town is also home to the Peacock Playhouse where you can find performances from local theatrical groups. You can also visit the Clay County Historical & Arts Council Museum that is located in the Old County Jail. 

 

 

 

History of Hayesville North Carolina
The town of Hayesville is located on the site of the former Cherokee town of Quanassee. The site was built along the Trading Path that led from Quanassee west to present-day Murphy, North Carolina through Unicoi Gap and down to present day Tellico Plains, Tennessee. The actual town of Hayesville was incorporated in 1913; the first mayor was S.E. Hogsed.
